Our advice for those who have never been to Faro before

We have, so far, used Easyjet to fly from Luton airport to Faro and have had no problems. Monarch also flies to Faro, but look out for more expensive airport taxes.
Faro is the main transport hub of Southern Portugal and it boasts the best bus and train connections on the Algarve. Faro’s airport is located only 6km outside the city centre and it is served by buses 14 and 16, which run every 15 minutes.

Direction's From Airport To Apartment By Car

Car Hire

As at time of writing, we have always hired a car. In our opinion, Simply Car Hire on the internet (they also have a phone no), are the best source of finding a good deal for car hire (some details can be found overleaf). When you arrive at Faro and have collected your cases, all the car hire people are waiting in the big entrance hall before you leave the airport building. Most have signs with the company name on and some stand around with a clip board. When you have signed the appropriate forms and given the chance to pay some extra for crash damage excess waiver (we always do, but it is up to you), you are told where to pick the car up from. Sometimes it is from the far car park outside and sometimes a minibus takes you to a base off airport grounds.

There is a petrol station at the airport if you need to fill up before you leave. There are also petrol stations along the A22 motorway, but the first one is quite a way from Faro. The car journey from Faro to Praia Da Luz is approx. 50 minutes and we supply directions if you decide to book. Drivers should always carry their driving licence with them, and police are quite hot sometimes on checking on this (for those who don’t know, everyone drives on the right – except some impatient Portugeezers!!!!)

A taxi or bus can be taken from the airport to the train station in Faro (it’s not far). It is located on Largo da Estacao at the north western edge of the city centre. Trains run to Lagos, which is the bigger town a few miles from Praia Da Luz, where a taxi can take you the rest of the journey to Praia Da Luz.
